Susan Scanlan holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Social Science in Health from Queensland University. She also holds a Graduate Diploma of Science (Psychology) with Merit from Sydney University. In 2003, she completed an Advanced Diploma in Adult Psychotherapy (Clinical) from the Australian College of Psychotherapists (ACP) in Sydney.
